The Sophomore year begins with the basics principles of graphic design; type, image and how to communicate with those building blocks.

Image explores the photographic image as a method for seeing ...and a tool for communication. But we don’t limit the exploration to only the camera. If you have illustration chops, you will be encouraged to use them.

Visual Communications covers into 2 semesters, exploring composition, visual balance, and rhythm. Projects include visualization of music, organization of information into timelines and a variety of medias are explored, from 2D to 3D spatial design. This creates a logical foundation of formal language while developing problem-solving and critical thinking. We have a thorough, four-semester sequence of

Typography in the core curriculum that includes experimental typography and letterpress. Letterforms are then combined with imagery, as posters, motion graphics and more.
