During the Senior year, coursework becomes much more self-guided. Students are encouraged to focus on areas of interest, both professional and personal, project management, and deep research.
Multimedia Experience explores the principles of screen design, interactivity and navigation as well as sound and motion, which is then applied to two digital projects. This serves as a capstone course, with pre-existing knowledge of digital spaces enabling faster and more complex generation of concepts.
Design Systems focuses on identity and branding systems in several forms of media, including print, web, environmental signage, exhibitions and packaging. Students choose a local company of their interest to be rebranded. Scheduled meetings include lectures, presentations, demonstrations, and discussions of contemporary design work.
Visual Advocacy and the notion of “designing for social change” has been an emerging trend over the past decade, utilizing the tools and methods of creative thinkers for positive influence in communities. We work with local community members, the Mayor’s office, the Chamber of Commerce, and other organizations to identify issues and propose solutions for the real problems their communities face.
Spatial Experience builds upon principles established in Multimedia Experience, and explores human experience in the surrounding spatial sense.
Lastly, the Senior Degree Project focuses on each student’s unique topic, in what will serve as the culmination of the graphic design undergraduate education. The goal of the project is to investigate how graphic design can affect something of personal interest to the student. It is considered instrumental to entering professional design practice.
